What is power awareness (work near overhead power lines) about…

If persons or plant are working in the vicinity of overhead power lines and are likely to infringe on the minimum Safe Approach Distances, then they must be trained in the requirements of this course to become an ‘Accredited Person’.

An Accredited Person is a person who has successfully completed a nationally recognised course relating to work near overhead power lines.

Course Overview

This course is based on the following unit of competencies which are recognised Australia wide:

  1. HLTAID001 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
  2. UETTDRRF10 – Provide First Aid in an ESI environment
  3. UETTDREL14 – Working Safely Near Live Electrical Apparatus as a non-electrical worker
  4. UETTDRRF02 – Perform Pole Top Rescue
  5. UETTDRRF03 – Perform EWP Rescue
  6. UETTDRRF06 – Perform Rescue from a Live LV Panel
  7. UETTDRRF08 – Perform EWP Controlled Descent Escape


What will you learn:

  • Working safely near energised electrical apparatus, including electrical powerlines, for non-electrical workers.
  • Provision of first aid in an electricity supply industry (ESI) environment.
  • Performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines.
  • Pole top rescue procedures as an emergency procedure required in the workplace.
  • Rescue procedures from an elevated work platform (EWP) in the workplace.
  • Rescue procedures from live low voltage (LV) apparatus, not including overhead lines and underground cables in the workplace.
  • Elevated work platform (EWP) controlled descent escape procedures in the workplace.
  • Must bring photo ID with you to training.
  • It is recommended that you refresh your power awareness training every 12 months.
